Admission Requirements

Keiser University is proud of the diverse character of its student body and welcomes students from across the globe. All international students who participate in educational programs conducted in English must be fluent in English before they enroll. Applicants are asked to furnish proof that they can read, write, and speak English fluently. The University accepts only F-1 visas based upon a student's program of study for in-person or hybrid coursework at one of our campuses in the U.S. International student applicants must meet the following requirements for admission to Keiser University:

Undergraduate Students

Successful completion of a secondary school program that is equivalent to high school in the United States.

Graduate Students

Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree program that is equivalent to a baccalaureate degree in the United States.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students

  • Official records from institutions outside of the USA must be evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) approved educational evaluator service attesting that completion is equivalent to secondary school completed in the United States.
  • Proof of English language proficiency, if the applicant’s primary language is not English
  • Certification of financial ability to meet tuition and other necessary expenses or ability to qualify for financial aid as an eligible non-citizen.

Proof of English Language Proficiency

Keiser University accepts one of the test scores listed below as proof of English language proficiency:

  • TOEFL®: A minimum score of 500 on a paper-based examination, 173 on a computer-based examination; or 61 on an internet-based score (iBT). Speaking English test scores is recommended.
  • IELTS: A minimum IELTS score of 6.0. Speaking English test scores is recommended.
  • DET (The Duolingo English Test): A minimum score of 95 (KU Flagship Residential Campus only).
  • U.S. College or University: At least two complete years of full-time academic coursework at a U.S. college or university with a grade of C (2.0) or higher in a standard English course.
  • ESL/IEP: Successfully pass Keiser University ESL/IEP level 4 courses. Keiser University offers 5 levels of ESL/IEP courses. Although students may be accepted for admission for matriculation upon completion of Level 4, they may be scheduled for level 5 concurrently with courses for the degree program.

Note: Proof of English language proficiency documents must be official. Any test scores should be less than two years old. The legal name used to apply to Keiser University must match the one on the proof documents. All KU International Centers shall strictly adhere to the policies and procedures of KU Undergraduate Admissions requirements specified in KU Undergraduate/Graduate Catalog.

Pre-Arrival Information

Before arriving to the U.S., you must obtain:

Keiser University International

  • A valid passport
  • Stamped F-1 Visa (not required for Canadian students)
  • Form I-20

PASSPORT

A passport is issued by the student’s home country. It must be valid at all times, especially if student will be traveling and must remain valid for 6 months beyond your stay in the United States.

F-1 VISA

An F-1 Visa must be obtained from an American Embassy or Consulate in the student’s home country. The Visa page is added to the passport. The dates on the Visa do not represent your authorized stay in the U.S., it merely shows the last day upon which you can use it to enter the United States.

FORM I-20

An I-20 is a United States Department of Homeland Security, specifically ICE and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), document issued by SEVP certified schools that provide supporting information on a student’s F-1 visa. To apply for an I-20, please refer to the checklist below.

I-20 Checklist

Students interested in attending Keiser University as an international student will need the following items to apply for the I-20:

  • Complete the admissions application
  • All Campuses (with the exception of the Flagship Campus)Pay a $55.00 application fee and a $145.00 registration fee
  • Flagship Campus

Pay $150.00 tuition deposit & $250.00 housing deposit (Please note that Flagship Residential students do not need to pay for a registration fee as it’s included in the tuition/housing deposit.)

  • Provide a letter on bank letterhead – NOT MORE THAN THIRTY (30) DAYS OLD stating the amount of money available for your education to cover your tuition, fees, books, living expenses and medical insurance. All amounts stated in the bank letter needs to be converted to U.S. dollars and must cover all expenses for the 12-month period
  • Provide an official high school transcript
  • Provide an official college transcript, if applicable
  • Provide official translation and evaluation of foreign credentials. Please obtain a list of agencies approved by Keiser University. The list may be obtained through the Registrar’s Office from the campus you wish to attend.
  • Provide official TOEFL or IELTS report if you attended a non English speaking high school or college
  • Provide copies of the first four pages of your passport
  • Provide a copy of the Visa page, if applicable Keiser University International
  • Provide a NOTARIZED letter from your sponsor if someone other than you or your parents are sponsoring you
  • Provide a NOTARIZED Affidavit of Support for living expenses if the amount is not covered in the bank letter
  • Provide an American residence address and current phone number and foreign address and phone number. NOTE: It is your responsibility to notify Keiser University of any change of address or phone number.

Arriving at U.S. Port of Entry

As you arrive, you will proceed to the terminal area for arriving passengers.

Please have the following documents available:

  • Passport
  • Form I-20
  • Customs Declaration Form (CF-6059).

Arriving at KU

You will need to bring:

  • Passport with your Visa page
  • I-20
  • I-94 print from website using your passport information
  • Local address
  • Local telephone number (if applicable)
  • Flagship Campus Only: Any outstanding medical documentation (immunization and insurance)

You will then:

  • Check in upon your arrival
  • Schedule to attend a mandatory Orientation
  • Register for classes Keiser University International
  • Pay tuition and fees (prepaid if you are attending a commuter campus)
  • Get your student ID Card
  • Set up your email address
  • Set up a library account
  • Flagship Campus Only: Submit outstanding medical documentation (immunization and insurance) and Housing (if applicable)

Orientation

As an International student, you must attend orientation on your campus. Orientation sessions cover many topics that relate to students staying in the United States while holding an F-1 visa.

Topics that will be discussed:

  • Immigration
  • Maintaining your F-1 Status
  • Unlawful Presence
  • Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Employment
  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT)
  • Driver’s License application, and much more

What to bring to your orientation session:

  • Passport with your Visa page
  • I-20
  • I-94 print from website using your passport information
  • Local address
  • Local telephone number (if applicable)

Orientation Dates

The orientation program, held prior to the first day of each term, is designed to facilitate the students’ transition to the University and to help familiarize new students with the organization and operation of the University. During orientation, students review the mission, traditions, rules, and regulations of the University. Additionally, study techniques, academic standards, and counseling resources are discussed. All new and transfer students are encouraged to attend orientation. Please view the Keiser University Catalog for future orientation dates.

Transfer Students

Undergraduate Students

If you are an Undergraduate International student transferring from another American institution you will need to submit the following:

  • Copy of Passport pages including your student visa page Keiser University International
  • Form I-94
  • Copies of all previous I-20 forms
  • Bank letter which provides enough funds to cover 12-months of tuition, fees, books, living expenses and medical insurance.
  • Official High School transcript (unless you have a college degree)
  • Official college transcripts
  • Official translation/evaluation reports by a NACES approved member agency – please obtain a list of agencies from your admission’s counselor or Registrar’s office

Have your prior college/institution complete an F-1 Transfer eligibility form to give to us If you are an Undergraduate International student transferring from an International institution you will need to submit all of the above, including:

  • Official translation/evaluation reports by a NACES approved member agency – Please obtain a list of agencies from your admission’s counselor or Registrar’s office Graduate Students For Graduate Level Students you must have all the above documents in addition to:
  • Professional Resume
  • Two letters of recommendation

Transfer Credits

Upon receipt of an official transcript, transfer credits from non-U.S. colleges/universities are evaluated and granted on a course equivalency basis. The Dean must receive an evaluation of official transcripts by a member agency of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) (https://www.naces.org) attesting that the courses are equivalent to courses earned at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States. Transfer credits are granted only for courses in which a grade of “C” or higher was earned (2.0 on a 4.0 scale). Prior to granting transfer of credit for any course, the University reserves the right to test applicants or request that they successfully pass an examination administered by a Keiser University faculty member. Questions concerning transfer evaluations should be addressed to the Office of Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.
