You don’t even need to hide the veggies for kids to love these super savory and delicious homemade ranch potatoes! Seriously, this could be my best ever recipe for crispy potatoes. I serve these for breakfast, lunch, dinner, you name it! The air fryer crisps them up perfectly and makes the flavors and texture just so incredibly tasty.

I could go on as to how unbelievable these air fried potatoes are. But that would take vital time away from you making them for yourself, as soon as humanly possible. This is one easy side dish you don’t want to skip!

What You’ll Need

All you need for these air fryer potatoes are the potatoes themselves, oil, and ranch seasoning. Here’s a roundup of the ingredients:

  • Potatoes: Baby potatoes or another small variety are easiest, as you can halve them.
  • Seasonings: Dried parsley, dill, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and black pepper make up the homemade seasoning mix for these ranch potatoes. It’s so easy to make yourself! Otherwise, you can also use a store bought ranch packet in a pinch.
  • Olive Oil: For coating.

What Kind of Potatoes Are Best?

Most varieties of smaller, thin-skinned potatoes will work for this recipe. Baby potatoes, red potatoes, Yukon gold, Russet potatoes or fingerling are all good options. They’re easy to come by at most grocery stores, have great earthy flavor, and are excellent for roasting since these varieties aren’t too waxy or starchy.

If you do use larger potatoes, you’ll need to cut them into 1-1 ½ inch cubes in order to follow this recipe as directed.

Fry: Place the seasoned potatoes into the preheated air fryer to cook, giving the basket a shake about half way through. The potatoes are done when they’re golden and crispy on the outside, and tender in the middle.

Can I Bake Them Instead?

If you don’t have an air fryer, no worries! You can roast these easy ranch potatoes in the oven instead, following these 3 steps:

  1. Coat the potatoes in seasoning. Place the potatoes and ranch seasoning in a gallon-sized resealable bag, along with the oil. Close the bag and squish the potatoes around to make sure they’re evenly coated.
  2. Arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet. Transfer the coated potatoes to an ungreased baking pan.
  3. Bake the potatoes in a preheated oven at 425°F for about 20-30 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and fork-tender. Baking times may vary depending on the size of your potatoes, so keep an eye on them!

  • Use Homemade Ranch Seasoning: Sure, you can make these with store bought ranch. But making your own homemade seasoning is so much better. I can’t recommend it enough! Not only is it healthier (homemade is free from all those weird packaged additives), it’s also crazy easy!
  • Make the Ranch Seasoning Ahead: On that note, homemade ranch seasoning can be used on everything! Mix up the seasoning for these potatoes ahead of time, and make a big batch to store airtight. Use it on loads of other recipes like this Easy Homemade Ranch Dip or these ​​Cheddar Bacon Ranch Roasted Potatoes! Store-bought, who?
  • Don’t Use Cooking Spray on the Air Fryer: The potatoes for this recipe are already well coated in oil, so it isn’t necessary to coat the air fryer basket. Still, if you’re ever tempted to use cooking spray, avoid it! Agents in cooking sprays tend to damage the non-stick coating, so stick to coating foods in oil, or using an oil sprayer.

Leftover ranch potatoes can be stored airtight in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Reheat the potatoes in the air fryer or in the oven for a few minutes, or until they’re warmed through.

Can I Freeze These?

You can keep air fryer potatoes frozen for up to 3 months. Transfer the cooked potatoes to a freezer bag or freezer-safe container after they’ve cooled completely. Make sure to get all the air out and then store them frozen until you’re ready to eat them.

You won’t need to thaw the potatoes before you reheat them! Just toss them in oil and then pop them right into the air fryer at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through as usual. Once the potatoes are heated through, you can give them an extra sprinkle of ranch spice to revive the flavor.

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 lbs small potatoes halved
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
    • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill
    • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

    Instructions

    • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Wash and dry the potatoes and cut them in half.

    • Place the potatoes in a large bowl. Drizzle them with olive oil and sprinkle the salt, parsley, dill, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper over the potatoes. Toss to coat.

    • Transfer the seasoned potatoes to the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F for 10 minutes.
