Looking for some cute butterfly designs? I’ve got you covered! This collection of free butterfly SVG files works with Cricut and Silhouette machines to make all kinds of crafty projects.
We are *almost* officially in spring, and I could not be more excited to welcome warmer, sunnier days. Flowers are beginning to bloom, the frogs are singing to me at night, and I’m hoping to see some butterflies soon!
To celebrate the return of spring, I am joining up with some other crafty blogger friends to bring you all some new free spring inspired free SVG files, all of which you can find linked at the bottom of this page.
For my contribution, I am sharing some simple butterfly illustrations. These free designs can be used for SO many projects.
My first thought was cutting them in two colors from cardstock and simply layering them together. This creates a cute paper butterfly perfect for scrapbooking, cardmaking, journaling, etc.
Butterfly Craft Project Ideas
There are so many ways you can use these butterfly cut files! Here are just a few ideas that I came up with, and most use simple craft supplies you probably already have at home!
- Wall Art – Create some whimsical wall art by cutting out butterflies in various sizes and arranging them in a flight pattern on your wall OR frame them in a shadow box for a smaller piece. Because the cut file design is layered, you can fold the top layer to give the butterflies extra dimension.
- Butterfly Mobiles – Perfect for nurseries, sunrooms, or any cozy corner, a hanging butterfly mobile brings a light, airy feel. Use translucent or lightweight papers to catch the light and dance with the slightest breeze.
- Color Your Own Tote Bags – Use black heat transfer vinyl to cut out just the top layer of the butterfly designs and iron them onto tote bags. Then, color in your butterfly designs as you like with permanent markers or fabric markers. Kids love to color their own tote bag!
- Butterfly Stickers – This is kind of back to basics, but sometimes the simplest projects are the best! Cut butterflies from adhesive vinyl in your favorite colors and patterns and then apply them to water bottles, mugs, notebooks, phone cases, and more.
- Jewelry – If you have a laser, then you can easily use these SVG designs to cut small butterflies from wood or acrylic to make earrings, necklaces or pins. Or if you are crafting with a Silhouette or Cricut, you can cut the designs from shrink film (just remember to scale them up!) and then shrink them down in your oven to get a similar look. I have a full guide on cutting shrink film with your Silhouette here.
- Window Decals – I used Liquid Sculpey to make some pretty butterfly window clings, but you can also cut static cling film or removable vinyl with your Silhouette or Cricut to create some simple butterfly window decorations.
- Party Decorations – Planning a party? These designs can be used to create everything from cupcake toppers and straw decorations to place cards and favor bags. A butterfly theme can work for birthdays, baby showers, or springtime tea parties.
- Seasonal Wreaths – Welcome spring by creating a wreath for your door by attaching pastel paper or felt butterflies to a simple wreath base.
