Arlington girls relay teams took two firsts at the 5A regional track meet Saturday at Texas Tech But the victories were not enough to overcome Amarillo High which took the team championship by 21 points The Heights girls won the 400-and 800-meter relays Yet in the last event of the day the 1600-meter relay they faltered on the final leg and came in sixth It was a discouraging way to end an otherwide outstanding day and it had Heights coach Jim Jenkins second-guessing himself "On the 1600 1 should have run the Jenkins said referring to Aaron Farris who had anchored the 400-meter victory I was happy about their performance I think they were a little tired at the end but I was glad to see them get this The Heights team of Sheronda Banks Farris Carolyn Allen and Landa Brown won the 800 in 1:418 beating out the Trimble Tech team The quartet also won the 400 in 4866 as Farris just edged out Vivian Johnson at the tape But in the 1600 both Heights and Richland past Bell By TOM ANDREW Star-Telegram Writer It was supposed to be a war between Richland and Bell for first place in the District 5A-7 baseball race But the convincing 11-1 victory Saturday hardly qualified as a skirmish Richland which needed only five innings to post its sixth straight district victory now has a one-game lead over the Blue Raiders (10-3 to 9-4) with three games left in the regular season And if the Rebels play their final three opponents Sam Houston Arlington and Haltom as tough as they played the Blue Raiders then the 5A-7 race may be all but over Of course Richland Coach Ronnie Caruthers about to claim the title just yet But he certainly was happy to head home from Bell with the district lead came in to this thinking have a battle on our Caruthers said "But anything can happen in this And
